Mauro Gallo is geboren in Napels, Italië. Hij studeerde ‘mechanical engineering’ en ‘aerospace engineering’ aan de universiteit van Napels, Federico II. In 2008 bracht zijn passie voor onderzoek en onderwijs hem naar het buitenland. Hij werkte van 2008-2011 als docent en onderzoeker aan de ETH Zürich (Zwitsersland) en van 2011-2016 aan de Technische Universiteit in Delft. Bij beide instellingen heeft hij gewerkt aan uitdagende en ambitieuze onderzoeksprojecten op het gebied van ‘fluid dynamics’, ‘heat transfer’, ‘thermodynamics’ en ‘conversion energy systems’. Zijn passie voor de natuur bracht zijn onderzoeksinteresse steeds meer in de richting van onderwerpen waar technologie en biologie samenkomen. Daarom is zijn aanstelling per september 2017 als ‘Lector Biomimicry, leren van de natuur voor duurzame oplossingen’ een logische vervolgstap in zijn carrière. In deze functie heeft hij de mogelijkheid om de natuur als basis te gebruiken, niet alleen voor bouwkundige -/technologische -, maar ook voor sociale innovaties. Mauro woont in Delft met zijn vrouw Giulia en zijn kinderen Salvatore (6), Anna (4) en Allessandra (3).
Mauro Gallo was born in Naples, Italy. He studied Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II. In 2008, his passion for research and teaching made him move abroad. From 2008-2011, he was a lecturer and researcher at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and from 2011-2016 at Delft University of Technology. In both institutes, he worked on challenging and ambitious research projects in the fields of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and conversion energy systems. His passion for nature increasingly directed his research interests towards topics where technology and biology meet. Hence, his appointment as of September 2017 as ‘Senior lecturer of Biomimicry, Learning from Nature for Sustainable Solutions’ is a logical next step in his career. In this capacity, he will have the opportunity to use nature as the basis, not only for architectural/technological, but also social innovations. Mauro lives in Delft, with his wife Giulia and their children Salvatore (6), Anna (4), and Allessandra (3).
