Lectoraat Biomimicry

As of 1 September 2017, Dr. Mauro Gallo has been appointed as senior lecturer of Biomimicry, Learning from Nature for Sustainable Solutions at Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Wageningen. The lectureship is the result of a collaboration between Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen, Inholland University of Applied Sciences in Delft, and VHL University of Applied Sciences Leeuwarden, whose collaboration was inspired by their shared green DNA. The lectureship was created with funding by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The lectureship of Biomimicry aims at:

  • Developing knew insights and integrated concepts by doing practice-oriented research together with educational institutes, national and international innovative businesses, and knowledge institutes
  • Positioning Biomimicry within the domain of agriculture and food as well as green professional training

Three different perspectives

The lectureship of Biomimicry fits in with the research programmes and research groups of the collaborating institutes and is a joint exercise in which the three different perspectives of the institutes strengthen each other:

  • Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen: in the programme of Sustainable Learning and Developing Professionals and Organisations and (green) Professional Training’;
  • Inholland University of Applied Sciences Delft: in the Sustainable Solutions Centre, the crossover between green and technology in Delft;
  • VHL University of Applied Sciences: in the programme of Sustainable and Innovative Technologies.

The research focuses on the question whether biomimicry as an innovative method may contribute to sustainable solutions in product innovation, process innovation, and social innovation, as well as their application in these three areas.
